Pec

Peć (Пећ; Albanian Pejė or Peja) is a city located in the province of Serbia called Kosovo (officially Kosovo and Metohia), Serbia and Montenegro, at 42.66° North, 20.31° East, within the Metohija. Peć means furnace in Serbian. In 2003 the city had a total population of 81,800 and had a large Turkish minority. It was heavily damaged in the Kosovo war.

Peć is the see of the Serbian Orthodox Church. It is also the administrative center of the Pec District of Serbia.

The city became part of the Ottoman Empire at the end of the 14th century and was known as Ipek. In Roman times the city was known as Pescium. Other former names include Pentza and Siparantum.
