Spurred on by the people fleeing the Spanish Inquisition to The Americas, the Roman Catholic Church extended the Inquisition to Mexico and the Americas. The primary target of the Inquisition were primarily Sephardic Jews, whom various conquistadors and explorers had helped to escape to the Americas via various land grants.
