James Miller (VC 1857)

James Miller was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

Details

He was approx. 37 years old, and a Conductor in the Bengal Ordnance Depot , Indian Army during the Indian Mutiny when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.

On 28 October 1857 at Futtehpore , Sikra, near Agra, India, Conductor Miller at great personal risk, went to the assistance of a wounded officer and carried him out of action. He himself was subsequently wounded.

He later achieved the rank of Hon. Lieutenant .
